New Scarlet Spider in 2012

Posted by bulletproofsponge

As if there isn't a soul who follows Spider-Man comics who still hasn't heard the news, The Scarlet Spider is coming back!

Well, not exactly. We are yet to find out who will be behind the mask, but what we do know is that he will be getting his own title. He will also be making a first appearance at the end of Spider-Island, and later an eight-page teaser in Novembers Point One book. Is this neat or what?

Check out this full article/ interview with Chris Yost on CBR.

Miles Morales commits his first act of heroism!

The Story

Ganke rushes over to Miles' house where Miles shows him his wallcrawling.  To better understand the origins of Miles' powers, Ganke suggests that since Miles got bitten at his Uncle Aaron's apartment they should return there and ask him about it.  However when they get there the next day they discover that Uncle Aaron has moved out. Leaving the apartment, Miles and Ganke notice a burning building with people trapped inside.  With a little encouragement from Ganke, Miles uses his powers to rescue the civilians.  He then runs into an alley and tries to process what he just did.  He tells Ganke that he just wants to live a normal life; after all, New York already has a Spider-Man (this story takes place after Ultimatum but before The Death of Spider-Man).

Miles and Ganke attend their first day at Brooklyn Visions Academy where they room together along with another guy named Judge.  One night all the kids in the school get called into the gymnasium for an emergency drill due to the events of Ultimate Comics Avengers vs. New Ultimates.  One of the teachers informs the students that Spider-Man has been shot.

Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli continue to tell a compelling origin story for this new Spider-Man.  The highlight of the issue was definitely Miles rescuing the civilians from the burning building.  The look Pichelli gives Miles after he rescues a little girl is pure gold.

Even though this series is coming out bi-weekly, I can hardly wait for the next issue.  Spidey fans owe it to themselves to check this out!

Moon Knight #6 Review

Posted by Spiderfan001

The Avengers arrive on Moon Knight's doorstep... for real this time.

The Story

After watching Moon Knight's antics from last issue on the news, Buck Lime contacts the Avengers to inform them of Moon Knight and the Ultron head.

The Night Shift are confronted by the mysterious kingpin of L.A., who vaporizes them for their failure to capture Moon Knight and Echo.

Echo surprises Marc Spector in his mansion; she apologizes for the way she reacted to his kiss and agrees to work with him.  Then the Avengers arrive and begin to question Spector about the Ultron head and what he intends to do with it.  The Avengers stress that the Ultron head is dangerous, but Spector insists he knows what he's doing.

As you can probably guess by my short summary, not a whole lot happens in Moon Knight #6.  After seeing how many significant events and revelations Dan Slott can pack into an issue of Amazing Spider-Man, it's a little jarring to go back to the slower paced Bendis books.  Not that this issue was bad; I'm so used to Moon Knight chatting with Spidey, Wolverine and Cap in his head that I was just as unsure as he was as to whether they were actually there when they showed up at his home.

Moon Knight is a great series, but readers who are strapped for cash may find waiting for and reading the trade to be a more satisfying experience.

Amazing Spider-Man 671

Posted by bulletproofsponge

Amazing Spider-Man 671, continues to impress as the story unveils and appears to be coming to a close. A number of very cool things take place in this issue, which I will get to in a while. As usual, the cover has almost nothing to do with the story.

The Story
Mary Jane, currently the only human with spider powers, besides Peter,  gets a two-page spotlight, which most of us have probably already seen in the preview. Feeling a sense of responsibility, like Peter, she decides to help save the whoever she can.

Unfortunately, thats about as much of Mary Jane that we get for the rest of the issue. Nonetheless, this issue does get good.

We next see Spidey, trying to stop Jameson from killing Smythe. Smythe doesn't die, and Jameson is webbed and contained. Spider-Man's next destination is Horizon Labs. At Horizon, Reed has developed a cure and is about the test it on Sajani when 'The Queen' reaches into Sajani's mind and transforms her into a Spider, hours before her infection is due to take place. With Spider-Woman's help, Reed manages to inject Sajani with the cure, transforming her back to normal.

Later the Jackal sends Tarantula to kill Peter. We finally find out that the person in Lab # 6, who has been helping in developing a cure is none other than Dr. Michael Morbius.

Madame Web finally interferes and tells those at Horizon to fix the damage they have done with the Psychic Jamming towers, stating that it has caused Spider-Man to lose his Spider sense.

Spider-Man, decides to head over to his own lab, hoping to find some answers, or invent a cure. ( He doesn't know that there already is a cure) Unfortunately, Tarantula, is waiting for him in his lab. (They both share the same DNA) Essentially, Tarantula's job is to infect the cure, so that it no longer works.

Luckily for Spider-Man, his Spider-Sense comes back, thanks to the efforts of those at Horizon, just as he is being trashed around by Tarantula. With his new Kung-Fu moves and Spider-Sense, Spider-Man becomes a walking weapon and knocks Tarantula into the giant tube holding the cure for the infection.

Kaine comes out of the pool, back to his normal self, only better. He also somehow managed to keep his Spider-powers. In the final panel, we see that Madam Web has regained her ability to see the future thanks to the unblocking of the Psychic towers. Similarly, the Queen has also gained the powers of a god, with the Psychic towers unblocked. Also, I forgot to mention that she kills the Jackal.

Probably the one thing that made me love this issue was the fact that Kaine somehow got healed, and was still good. I've been wanting to see a Spider-Man/Kaine team-up for a while. From the looks of it, Kaine no longer has his degenerating problem, which can only be good for us. I'm looking to find out how much of his old powers he has actually retained.

The second thing that really did it for me, and many others, is the fact that Spider-Man has his spider-sense back. Even better, he knows how to mix it with his new Kung-Fu moves! All we need now is a lil more of MJ in the next issue, and it'll all be good.
